So, I wanted to play some “Baldur’s Gate 3” with my friends online, but it’s a bit tricky to figure out how to connect directly. We all bought the game, some on Steam and some on GOG. The first thing I tried was to find the “direct connect” option, which, from what I’ve gathered, is just connecting directly to someone else via the internet.
I did some digging and found out that “Baldur’s Gate 3” supports multiplayer for two to four players. Great! We started a new multiplayer game, and one of my buddies decided to host. I learned that the host needs to keep their game running for others to join, which makes sense.
Here’s How We Did It:
- Starting the Game: First, we decided who would host. Then, that person started “Baldur’s Gate 3” and went to the multiplayer section.
- Creating a Session: The host created a new session. We made sure it was set so that only friends could join.
- Getting the Server ID: Here’s the important part. The host found the Server ID in the session settings. It’s under the “Session” menu, then click the gear icon at the top, and you should see the direct connect ID.
- Sharing the ID: My friend, the host, shared the Server ID with the rest of us.
- Joining the Game: We, the non-hosts, then launched the game, went to multiplayer, and chose the “Direct Connect” option. We pasted the Server ID in the box, and bam, we were in!
Another thing I discovered is that if you have the GOG version, you need to make sure that GOG Galaxy’s API is enabled. I guess it helps with the connection. Also, since the latest patch, Patch 9, “Baldur’s Gate 3” makes it easier to direct connect between Steam and GOG on PC and Mac, which is super convenient.
One last thing, for anyone new to “Baldur’s Gate 3” or games like “Divinity 2”, don’t worry! These games are pretty beginner-friendly. They’re turn-based, so you can take your time to learn the ropes. There are lots of tooltips to explain what’s going on. Plus, knowing a bit about D&D, like I do, definitely helps, but it’s not required. It’s a casual-friendly game, which is perfect for just chilling and having fun with friends.
It took a bit of trial and error, but we finally got it working. Now, we’re having a blast exploring the world of “Baldur’s Gate 3” together! It’s really cool that you can team up with friends and go on these epic adventures. If you’re thinking about trying it out, I say go for it! Just follow these steps, and you’ll be playing with your buddies in no time.
