Well, lemme tell ya, that money thing in Madrid, it ain’t so simple. I hear folks talkin’ ’bout it all the time, like it’s some kinda riddle in them crossword puzzles. Some folks say one thing, some say another. Makes my old head spin, I tell ya!
They got these things called crosswords, you know? Full of little boxes and clues. One of them clues, they say, is “Money in Madrid.” Now, what’s a body supposed to think? I ain’t never been to Madrid. Sounds fancy, though.
I heard one fella sayin’ it’s this thing called “Euro.” Four letters, he says. Fits right in them little boxes. Heard another sayin’ it’s somethin’ else, with five letters, starts with an E too, maybe “Euros” I think. Sounds like more of them “Euros“. That’s a lot of letters for a little word, ain’t it? Confusin’, that’s what it is.
They say there’s a whole bunch of answers. Thirty, maybe forty, who knows! More than I can count on my fingers and toes, that’s for sure. And they all about that same thing – money in Madrid. How can there be so many different monies?

They got these smarty pants folks who make these crossword puzzles. One of ’em, they call him Will Shortz. Sounds important. He’s been doin’ it since way back when, 1993, I hear. That’s a long time. Longer than I’ve been knittin’ these socks!
They say these crossword things get harder as the week goes on. Monday’s easy, they say. By the time you get to the end of the week, well, you better have your thinkin’ cap on tight! I reckon that Money in Madrid clue, it probably shows up on different days, with different answers. Keeps you guessin’, I suppose.
Some folks, they look it up. They got these fancy gadgets now, tell you anything you wanna know. They type in “Money in Madrid crossword clue,” and bam! There’s the answer. Don’t seem right to me, cheatin’ like that. Where’s the fun in that?
I seen it in the paper, too. They call it “Newsday puzzle,” this one fella said. Said he found the “Money in Madrid” clue in there. Must be a popular one, that clue. Everyone’s talkin’ ’bout it.
Then there’s these other places, “NY Times,” “Daily Celebrity,” “Telegraph.” Fancy names. They all got them crossword puzzles, too. And I bet you that “Money in Madrid” clue pops up in them, too. Bet you a nickel on it.
There is this thing they call the “Daily Themed Crossword Sci-Fi Trip.” Sounds like somethin’ out of one of them space movies. And guess what? They say that “Money of Madrid” clue was in there, too. Even them space folks are thinkin’ ’bout money in Madrid, I reckon.
They even got a whole dictionary just for them crossword answers. Can you believe that? A whole book just for fillin’ in them little boxes. If you know some of the letters, you can look it up, they say. Makes it too easy, if you ask me.
One time, I heard someone say it was in the “American quick crossword.” Quick, huh? Must be for folks in a hurry. Don’t have time to sit and ponder. Maybe it is Euro, maybe it’s Euros, they just want the answer quick.
I still don’t rightly know what the real answer is. Maybe it’s all of ’em. Maybe Euro is right, maybe Euros is right, maybe there’s a whole bunch of other right answers. All I know is, it’s got folks talkin’. And that’s somethin’, ain’t it? That money in Madrid, it sure is a mystery.
All this talk about money in Madrid. That place, Madrid, must be a rich place, huh? Lots of different kinds of money, all them crossword clues about it. Maybe I should go there sometime. See what all the fuss is about. But then again, who’d feed my chickens?
