Okay, so I wanted to keep better track of the Ohio Bobcats basketball roster, especially with all the transfer portal craziness. Here’s how I did it, step-by-step, and it was kinda messy, but it worked!

Step 1: Figuring Out Where to Even Start
First, I was like, “Where do I even find a list of who’s coming and going?” I started by just Googling “Ohio Bobcats basketball transfer portal.” It wasn’t super helpful at first, lots of general college basketball news.
Step 2: Hunting for Reliable Sources
Then, I remembered some sports websites might have dedicated pages. I’m not going to say any names, but you know, the big ones. I tried searching on those sites specifically for “Ohio Bobcats” and “transfer portal.” This got me a little closer, but it was still bits and pieces, not a full picture.
Step 3: Getting My Hands Dirty (with Spreadsheets!)
I decided I needed to organize this myself. So, I opened up a good old spreadsheet. At the top, I made columns for:
- Player Name
- Position
- Status (In/Out)
- Date (of transfer news)
- New School (if transferring out)
- Previous School (if transferring in)
Step 4: The Slow Grind of Gathering Info
This was the tedious part. I went back to those sports news sites and started combing through articles. Whenever I saw a name mentioned related to Ohio and the transfer portal, I’d jot it down in my spreadsheet. If it was a player leaving, I marked “Out.” If it was a player coming in, I marked “In.” It took time because you can see news by date.
Step 5: Filling in the Gaps
Sometimes, the news articles wouldn’t say where a player was going, just that they were entering the portal. So, I had to do more searching, sometimes even looking at the player’s social media (if I could find it – that’s a whole other rabbit hole!). I tried to fill in as much of the “New School” and “Previous School” info as possible.
Step 6: Constant Updates!
The thing about the transfer portal is, it’s always changing. So, I made it a habit to check those sports sites a couple of times a week. I’d add new names to my spreadsheet, update any missing info, and basically just try to keep it as current as possible. This step is never complete.
It’s not a perfect system, but it’s better than nothing! Now, at least, I have a single place where I can see all the Ohio Bobcats transfer portal activity, instead of having to piece it together from a bunch of different websites. I felt like a real sports reporter, hah!
