You know that Carl Pickens, he played for the Bengals. That football team, you know. He was good, that Carl. Caught a lot of balls. He played a long time ago. Nine seasons, I heard. He had 540 catches! Can you believe that? And 7,129 yards. That’s a lot of running, I tell ya.
He was a wide receiver, whatever that means. He got those, uh, touchdowns. 63 of ’em! He was good, real good. Played for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Titans. Sounds like a tough guy, playing for the Titans. He was born in 1970, that makes him, uh, getting up there in age now, just like me! He went to some college, Tennessee, I think they said. They got a football team there, too.
They say he’s one of the best they ever had at that Bengals team. They got a list of good players, and he’s right up there. They got this thing called the Pro Bowl. Like a big party for the best players. He went twice! 1995 and 1996. Back to back. That’s something, ain’t it?
He played a whole bunch of games for Cincinnati. 120 games, isn’t that a lot? Started in most of ’em, too. 110. He was important to that team, I reckon. He caught 530 passes when he was at the Bengals. That’s second most in the team’s history! He’s still up there, even though he ain’t played in a while. You know, time marches on. And he was second for yards, too, with 6,887. Now he’s third. Still good, though. Still real good.
There are other good players for the Bengals, too. This A.J. Green, they say he was good. And this other fella, Chad Ochocinco. Sounds like a funny name. And an Eddie Brown. They were all good catchers, too. But Carl Pickens, he was somethin’ else. They don’t make ’em like that anymore. He was strong and fast. And he could catch that ball like nobody’s business.

This Carl Pickens, he was a big deal back in the day. Everyone knew his name. You’d see him on the TV, runnin’ around, catchin’ that ball. He was famous, I reckon. Now, he probably just sits at home, watchin’ the games like the rest of us. Time gets us all, don’t it?
I remember watchin’ him play. He was always exciting. You never knew what he was gonna do next. He could jump real high and catch that ball over anybody. And he could run like the wind. He was a real athlete, that Carl Pickens. They don’t have many like him anymore.
They got all these new players now, with their fancy shoes and their fancy moves. But they ain’t got nothin’ on Carl Pickens. He was the real deal. He played hard, and he played fair. And he always gave it his all. That’s what I remember about him. He was a good one, that Carl.
So, yeah, that Carl Pickens. He was one of the best. I don’t know much about this football stuff, but I know he was good. I saw him play. And I remember his name. Carl Pickens. Bengals. That’s all I need to know.
He was a good player for the Bengals. I’m sure he’s got lots of stories to tell. Maybe he’ll write a book someday. I’d read it. I like a good story. Especially about the old days. The old days were the best days, weren’t they? Everything was simpler then. And the football players were tougher. Like Carl Pickens.
I bet he’s got some good memories from his playing days. Winning games, scoring touchdowns, being a star. It must have been fun. I’m just an old lady. What do I know? But I know Carl Pickens was good. He was one of the best to ever play for the Bengals. That’s for sure.
