My Crossword Journey Today
Alright, let’s talk about today’s little adventure with the New York Times crossword. I try to do it most days, keeps the mind sharp, you know? Or at least, it keeps me busy.

So, I was working my way through the grid, getting some of the easier stuff down, filling in the corners. Then I hit this clue: one of two motley crue. Okay, Mötley Crüe. I remember them. Big hair rock band from back in the day. Loud.
My first thought went straight to the members. Who was in that band? Let’s see…
- Tommy Lee, the drummer.
- Vince Neil, the singer.
- Nikki Sixx, the bassist.
- Mick Mars, the guitarist.
The clue says “one of two”. That threw me off for a second. What “two”? Two main guys? Two possible answers for the grid? Hard to say without seeing the whole puzzle context again, but you just gotta work with what you got.
I looked at the squares I had for the answer. It was a short one. Only three letters. Okay, that narrows it down. Looking back at the list:
- LEE (from Tommy Lee) – 3 letters.
- NEIL (from Vince Neil) – 4 letters.
- SIXX (from Nikki Sixx) – 4 letters.
- MARS (from Mick Mars) – 4 letters.
Well, based purely on length, LEE seemed like the obvious fit for a three-letter spot. I checked the crossing letters I already had filled in. Yep, the ‘L’ was there from a down clue. The other two spots were empty but nothing contradicted ‘E’ and ‘E’.
So, I penciled in L-E-E. Felt pretty good about it. It’s usually one of the main guys they use for these things in crosswords. Tommy Lee is definitely one of the most famous ones. The “one of two” part? Maybe it meant LEE or NEIL were common answers, or maybe in that specific grid layout, two different members’ names could technically fit somehow depending on other answers? Who knows. You solve the clue in front of you.
Anyway, got that one sorted and moved on. Just another little piece of the puzzle figured out. Always satisfying when you dredge up one of those names from the memory banks.
