Okay, so my girlfriend is always cold, like, always. Even in the summer, she’s bundled up. So, I decided I was gonna do something about it and make her a super cozy blanket. This is the story of how that went down.

The Master Plan (and the Flaws)
First, I picked out the yarn. I knew I wanted something chunky and soft, like those giant blankets you see everywhere. I went to the craft store, and let me tell you, it was overwhelming! So many colors, so many textures… After about an hour of wandering around like a lost puppy, I found this really pretty, soft, grey yarn. It felt like a cloud. Perfect!
The Actual Knitting
Now, I’ve knitted before, like, basic scarves. But a whole blanket? That’s a different level. I found a simple pattern online, just a basic knit stitch. I was thinking, “How hard can it be, right?” Famous last words.
- Day 1: I cast on the stitches. So far, so good. My hands felt a little clumsy, but I got into a rhythm. I think I watched like three movies while knitting the first row.
- Day 2: Okay, this is taking longer than I thought. My arms are starting to ache. But I’m making progress! It’s starting to look like… a very long, narrow scarf.
- Day 3: I dropped a stitch. Panic! I had to google how to fix it, and thankfully, there are tons of videos. Crisis averted.
- Day 4-7: Just… knitting. Lots and lots of knitting. I switched between Netflix and podcasts to keep myself entertained. My cat also decided the yarn was his new best friend, so that was…fun.
- Day 8: Realized I was running out of yarn. Back to the craft store I went! Thankfully, they still had the same color. Bullet dodged.
- Day 9-14: More knitting. My fingers were starting to feel numb, but I was determined to finish. I even started dreaming about knitting.
The Grand Finale
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I finished! I cast off the last stitch, and it was done. A real, actual blanket! It wasn’t perfect, there are a few wonky bits, but I made it. And it’s huge and soft and cozy.
I gave it to my girlfriend, and she loved it! She uses it all the time, and it makes me so happy to see her snuggled up in something I made with my own two hands(And many, many hours). Would I do it again? Maybe. But next time, I might start with a smaller project.
