Well now, if you’re wonderin’ if Bivol ever fought Usyk in them amateur days, let me tell ya somethin’. They ain’t ever met in the ring before, not even in them ol’ amateur circuits. Now, you might hear some folks sayin’ that Bivol and Usyk could’ve squared off in them fancy amateur tournaments, but that ain’t true. Usyk, he fought a lotta good folks in the amateurs, sure enough, but Bivol? Well, he wasn’t in the same weight class as Usyk, no sir. So, they never crossed paths, not in the amateur world, and certainly not in them Olympic rings.
But lemme tell ya, them two fighters got plenty of history with others. Bivol, he’s done his fair share of fighting in the amateurs, even though he didn’t make it to the Olympics, not like Usyk did. Now, Usyk, he’s got a lotta experience from them amateur days, no doubt about it. He fought Beterbiev many times, in fact, they met in them Russian and European amateur bouts a few times. But Bivol and Usyk? Well, they just never happened to meet up when they was both young bucks in the amateur leagues.
Now, Bivol, he ain’t the same kind of fighter as Beterbiev. That Beterbiev, he’s got a style that’s more in-your-face, throwin’ big punches for the fans, you know? But Bivol, he’s more of a smooth operator, keepin’ his distance, movin’ in and out, so it’s hard to pin him down. Bivol’s got a better defense than some folks give him credit for, but he ain’t got the knockout power that Beterbiev’s packin’. That’s just how it is.
But now, talkin’ about Usyk and Bivol, it’d sure be somethin’ if they ever did fight, wouldn’t it? I reckon a fight between them would be somethin’ to see, even if it happened at a catchweight, somewhere in between them weight classes. They say it could happen at Cruiserweight, or maybe somethin’ like 190 pounds. Don’t matter much, it’d still be a good scrap, I’m sure of it. Usyk’s a big ol’ fella, a southpaw with a lotta skill, and Bivol, he’s got that steady rhythm and that defensive skill of his. I’d pay good money to watch that, I reckon.
Now, as for fights that Bivol’s had, he fought Gilbert Castillo not too long ago, in October 2019, on the same card as Usyk when he was fightin’ Chazz Witherspoon. Ain’t that somethin’? A whole lotta folks don’t realize just how big them fights are, but let me tell ya, bein’ on the undercard of Usyk’s fight is no small thing. It means them big names are payin’ attention, and that’s a good place to be if you want to make a name for yourself.
But lookin’ back on all them amateur days, I don’t reckon there’s much to say about Bivol and Usyk fightin’. They just didn’t ever share the same ring, and it ain’t like they was in the same weight class or anything. Both of ’em have been mighty successful in their own right, though. Usyk, well, he’s made a name for himself, not just in the amateurs but in the pros too. And Bivol, he’s done a mighty good job in his career as well. But as for a head-to-head in them amateur days? Nah, that never happened.
So, if ya were hopin’ for some kind of rivalry in the amateurs between Usyk and Bivol, you’re outta luck. But don’t go thinkin’ they ain’t got respect for each other, ‘cause they surely do. Both of ’em are talented as all get-out, and it’s a good thing for boxing that they’re around. Maybe someday, in the pros, they’ll meet up. Until then, we’ll just have to wait and see. Ain’t that how it always goes in this sport?
So, in conclusion: Usyk and Bivol never fought in the amateurs, didn’t even fight in the same weight class. But that don’t mean they ain’t both at the top of their game. They’ve each got their own story, and maybe someday, they’ll meet in that big ol’ ring in the pros. But for now, we’ll just keep watchin’ and waitin’ to see what happens next.
