I tried to mess around with the Infernal Mechanic in BG3 the other day. I’ve gotta say, it was quite the experience.
So, I started off in Act 1, right? I was roaming around, exploring the Emerald Grove, and I stumbled upon this makeshift forge in the Hollow. There, I met this Tiefling blacksmith named Dammon. Turns out, he’s the guy you need if you’re trying to help Karlach with her, uh, “condition.”
Now, Karlach’s got this infernal engine for a heart, and it’s acting up. Dammon’s the only one who can fix it, but he needs this rare material called Infernal Iron. So, I went on a scavenger hunt, searching high and low for this stuff. I found a piece eventually and brought it back to Dammon.
When I gave him the Infernal Iron, he got to work on Karlach’s engine. There were some dialogue options, but I just let him do his thing. He managed to stabilize her engine a bit, but it wasn’t a permanent fix. He told me that he could do more, but he’d need another piece of Infernal Iron. He also mentioned that he could forge some heavy armor for me if I had the material on me. Since I didn’t, I put it on the back burner for the time being.
Anyway, I moved on to Act 2, and I was told to find Dammon again at the Last Light Inn. I thought, “Okay, maybe he can finally fix Karlach’s engine completely.” I kept at least two pieces of Infernal Iron on hand for this. I made my way to the inn, and there he was. I talked to him, and this time, he was able to do more for Karlach.
- Found Dammon in Act 1 at Emerald Grove.
- Gave him Infernal Iron to temporarily fix Karlach’s engine.
- Found Dammon again in Act 2 at the Last Light Inn.
- With more Infernal Iron, he further improved Karlach’s condition.
It seems like Dammon is pretty important for Karlach’s questline. He’s the only one who can work with that infernal engine. If you find enough Infernal Iron and get to Dammon at the right times, you can make some real progress.
Oh, and a word of warning: don’t talk to anyone else at the Last Light Inn before you talk to Dammon. I heard that things can go south pretty quickly, and you might end up losing him for good. And trust me, you don’t want that, especially if you’re trying to help Karlach. It’s a game after all, and mistakes happen.
Well that was a tiring process. But it was worth seeing Karlach’s story progress a little further. I just hope I can find enough Infernal Iron to keep her engine running smoothly. I guess time will tell how things turn out.
