This Ben Shelton, they say he’s a big shot now. Playin’ that tennis. I seen him on the TV. Young fella, full of beans. But this here Ben Shelton injury, that’s what I’m hearin’ about. Sounds like a whole heap of trouble.
He was playin’ in Japan, they call it. Kinoshita something. Sounds fancy. Big deal, I reckon, with all them other players. Casper and Alexander, they got fancy names too. This Ben, he ain’t got no fancy name, just Ben. But he was playin’ with them big shots. He was at that US Open thing, too. Went pretty far, they say. Semi-somethin’. I don’t know all the fancy words, but it sounds important.
They say he’s made a pile of money, this Ben. Millions! Can you believe it? $5.2 million! Five million! For hittin’ a ball! Back in my day, we worked for a livin’, you know. Hard work, that’s what it was. Not this gallivantin’ around with a racket. But hey, times change, I guess. Still, five million dollars. Lordy. That’s a lot of potatoes.
But now, this injury, see? That’s what throws a wrench in the works. Heard he hurt his shoulder. That’s a bad one. Shoulder’s important, you know? Can’t be swingin’ that racket with a bum shoulder. They say it was painful. Well, no duh! An injury like that, course it’s painful.
He was in Paris, I hear. Another one of them fancy places. Playin’ another one of them big games. And his shoulder, it just gave out. Couldn’t play his best, they say. Lost the game. Six-four, six-two. Don’t know what that means, exactly, but it don’t sound good.
- Hurt his shoulder bad.
- Couldn’t play right.
- Lost the game.
- Ben Shelton injury is a real shame.
And then, they say he couldn’t go to the Olympics. The Olympics! That’s a big one. Everyone wants to go to the Olympics. But he had to miss it. Said the schedule was too busy. Too busy! What’s busier than the Olympics, I ask you? Sounds like a load of hogwash to me.
I think he’s just scared. Scared of gettin’ hurt more. Heard somethin’ about his leg, too. Ham-somethin’. Hamstring, they call it. Sounds like somethin’ you’d eat, not somethin’ you’d hurt. But what do I know? I just think he’s scared is all. Don’t blame him, though. Gettin’ hurt, that’s no fun. Especially when you’re makin’ all that money. Five million dollars!
This Ben Shelton injury, it’s a tough one. Young fella like that, just gettin’ started. Makin’ all that money. Now he’s hurt. It’s a shame, it really is. Hope he gets better. Maybe he should take it easy for a while. Rest up that shoulder. And that ham-thing.
It all happened in the fifth, they say. The fifth set. Whatever that is. Sounds tiring. Five of anything sounds tiring, to be honest. But that’s when it happened. He got hurt. And now what? What’s he gonna do now?
It’s a lesson, I reckon. A lesson for all them young folks. Don’t go pushin’ yourself too hard. You end up hurt, and then where are you? Nowhere, that’s where. This Ben Shelton injury is proof of that.
They compare him to a baseball player, a left-hander. I don’t know nothin’ about baseball. But a hurt shoulder is a hurt shoulder, no matter what sport you play. And that’s all I know about that.
I just hope this Ben fella learns his lesson. Take it easy, son. You got a long life ahead of ya. Don’t go ruining it by pushing yourself too hard, you hear? Rest up and heal that Ben Shelton injury. That’s the important thing.
