Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz about this game “Soul Hackers 2” lately. It looks kinda cool, with the cyberpunk vibes and all. But I’m the kind of person who likes to start from the beginning, you know? Get the full story and all that. So, I started wondering, “Can I start with Soul Hackers 1?” or is it, like, super important to know what happened in the first game?
I started digging around, and man, it’s a mixed bag of opinions out there. Some folks are saying it’s totally fine to jump straight into “Soul Hackers 2”. They say the new one is pretty much standalone, with just a few little nods to the first game that you wouldn’t even notice if you didn’t play it. The story is all about this character Ringo trying to save the world from some group called the Phantom Society who want to use these powerful things called Covenants to cause an apocalypse. Sounds pretty standard, right? Plus, there’s a good ending and a bad ending. Classic stuff.
But then there are others who are all like, “No way, you gotta play the first one!” They say you’ll appreciate the second one more if you know the backstory and some of the returning characters from the original “Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers”. I guess there’s something about the first dungeon in “Soul Hackers 1” that some people find pretty tough, and maybe that’s why some people just give up on it. It’s a turn-based dungeon crawler, kind of like the older Shin Megami Tensei games. I heard that the main character in the first one can’t even use magic. Weird, huh?
- Started researching: First, I searched for information about whether “Soul Hackers 2” was a standalone game or if it required knowledge of the first one.
- Found mixed opinions: Discovered that some people said it was okay to start with “Soul Hackers 2”, while others insisted on playing the first one to get the full experience.
- Dug into details about the first game: Learned that “Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers” is a turn-based dungeon crawler with some challenging aspects, like the first dungeon and the main character not being able to use magic.
- Considered the release platforms: I found out that the original game is only officially available in English on the 3DS. No PC release, which is a bummer.
- Weighed my options: Now I’m trying to decide whether to try and find a way to play the first one or just jump straight into “Soul Hackers 2”.
Honestly, I’m still on the fence. On one hand, I like the idea of getting the full story and recognizing those recurring characters. But on the other hand, the first game is only available on the 3DS, which I don’t even own anymore. And I don’t know if I want to go through the trouble of, you know, finding “alternative” ways to play it. Plus, some people say it hasn’t aged that well. Maybe it’s one of those things that was great for its time but feels kinda clunky now.
I wish they’d just release “Soul Hackers 1” on PC or something. That would make things so much easier. I heard someone say they hope it comes to Steam someday. Me too, random internet person, me too. Anyway, for now, I guess I’ll just have to decide whether I want to go through the hassle of tracking down the first game or just say “screw it” and play “Soul Hackers 2”. It’s not like I’m missing out on some deep romance options or anything. Apparently, there are no romance options in “Soul Hackers 2”, which is a bit of a letdown, but whatever.
Decision Time
So, yeah, that’s where I’m at right now. Still haven’t made up my mind. Maybe I’ll flip a coin or something. Or maybe I’ll just wait and see if “Soul Hackers 1” ever gets a re-release. What do you guys think? Would you bother with the first game, or would you just jump straight into the sequel?
