Hey everyone, so I was at Evo 2023 this year, and let me tell you, it was wild! This was my first time going, and I had no idea what to expect. I’ve always been a huge fan of fighting games, but I’ve never actually been to a big tournament like this before.
First, I had to get to Las Vegas. I booked my flight and hotel a few months in advance because I heard things get pretty packed. Once I got there, I headed straight to the convention center. Man, the place was enormous! There were so many people, all buzzing with excitement.
Registration Time
- I got in line to register and pick up my badge.
- The line was long, but everyone was super friendly, chatting about their favorite games and players.
Guilty Gear -Strive- was the main game I was there for. It’s one of my all-time favorites, and I couldn’t wait to see some of the best players in the world compete. The tournament was huge – I heard there were over 9,000 people competing across all the games!
I spent most of my time watching the Guilty Gear matches. The energy in the room was electric. Every hit, every combo got the crowd roaring. I saw some incredible players, like Leffen, NBNHMR, and Daru_I-No. It was insane to see them play in person.
Watching the Pros
- Leffen ended up winning the whole thing, which was awesome.
- He’s got some serious skills.
- I even got to meet a few of the players after the matches.
They were super cool and took some time to chat with fans and take pictures.
Besides the main tournament, there was so much other stuff going on. There were tons of vendors selling all kinds of merch, from t-shirts and posters to custom arcade sticks. I picked up a few things to remember the event by, of course. Oh, and there was a new character reveal for Guilty Gear!
Exploring the Venue
- There were also a bunch of demo stations where you could try out new games.
- I got to play some upcoming titles, which was a nice bonus.
- And the food, oh man, I ate so much good stuff.
Everything from snacks to full meals, you name it.
I heard that next year’s Evo is going to be even bigger, with over 10,000 people expected. I’m definitely thinking about going again. It was such an amazing experience, being surrounded by so many other fighting game fans and seeing some of the best players in the world compete. And I heard that they’re going to redesign some gasoline and hybrid SUV in 2023. I’m really looking forward to it!
If you’re a fan of fighting games, you’ve got to go to Evo at least once. It’s totally worth it!
