Hey everyone, so I was trying to solve this crossword puzzle today and got stuck on this clue “oust.” I’m not gonna lie, crosswords aren’t really my strong suit, but I like to give them a go every now and then. It’s kind of like a little brain workout, you know?
Anyways, I stared at that “oust” clue for like a good ten minutes, racking my brain for an answer. I tried to think of words that meant the same thing, like maybe “remove” or “kick out,” but nothing seemed to fit. Then I thought, maybe it’s a word I don’t even know!
So, I decided to do what any reasonable person would do in this situation: I googled it. I typed in “oust crossword clue” and hoped for the best.
First thing that popped up were a bunch of websites dedicated to crossword solvers. It was kind of cool to see that there’s a whole community out there for this stuff. I mean, I knew crosswords were popular, but I didn’t realize there were so many resources online.
I started scrolling through the search results, and I saw a bunch of different answers, depending on how many letters the word was supposed to be.
- Four-letter words: There were some four-letter words like “fire,” “sack,” etc.
- Six-letter words: A lot of suggestions were “dethrone,” “depose,” “unseat,” “eject,” “evict.”
- Other words: Other options were like “boot,” “exile,” “expel.”
But I needed the six-letter answer, so my eyes were peeled for that. Finally I saw a couple of answers that fit. One was “eject,” and the other was “depose.” Since I already had one letter in the grid for the clue, I figured out which one it was.
It turned out the answer was “depose“! I plugged it into the puzzle, and it fit perfectly. I felt a little sense of accomplishment, even though I had to look it up. Hey, at least I learned a new word, right?
The Takeaway
Honestly, I probably should brush up on my vocabulary. But it’s kind of nice to know that there are resources out there to help you out when you’re stuck. Solving crosswords is a tough thing for me, but I think I will keep doing it.
