You wanna talk about the tallest catcher in MLB, huh? Well, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout this the other day. Seems there’s a fella named Grayson Greiner, used to play for them Arizona Diamondbacks. Now he’s with the Minnesota Twins, I reckon. They say he’s a big’un, standin’ 6 foot 6 inches tall. That’s taller than most doors around here!
Tallest Catcher, You Say?
Now, I ain’t no expert on baseball, but that seems mighty tall for a catcher. They gotta squat down all the time, right? Must be tough on the knees. But this Greiner fella, they say he’s the tallest catcher in MLB history. Can you believe that? Makes you wonder how many other tall fellas tried to be catchers.
There was another fella, a pitcher this time, named Jon Erich Rauch. They said he was even taller, 6 foot 11 inches. A real giant! He wasn’t a catcher though, just a pitcher. Imagine that big fella throwin’ that ball. Scary! But for catchers, this Greiner, he’s the top dog when it comes to height.
Grayson Greiner, the Big Catcher
Heard this Greiner started catchin’ when he was just a little tyke. Loved it from the get-go, they say. Didn’t matter that there weren’t many tall catchers before him. He just went for it. And now look at him, playin’ in the big leagues. It’s somethin’, ain’t it? When you think of tallest catcher in mlb, this Greiner is a name you’d better remember.
They even talk about him on the internet. He’s an “internet star”, whatever that means. Must be ’cause he’s so tall and playin’ catcher. Most catchers ain’t that tall, you see. This makes Greiner kind of special, I guess.
Other Catchers, Not So Tall
They was talkin’ ’bout some other famous catchers. Let me see if I can remember their names. There was this Yogi Berra. He must have been one of the best catchers because he won lots of awards.
- Yogi Berra – won MVP three times, whatever that is. 1951, 1954, and 1955. Sounds important.
- Some fella named Fisk.
- Another one called Piazza.
- Then there was Carter, and Bench.
Now, these fellas weren’t as tall as Greiner. Maybe 6 foot 3 inches, or 6 foot 2 inches, or 6 foot 1 inch. Still tall, but not like our tallest catcher in MLB, that Grayson Greiner. He is way taller.
Being Tall Ain’t Easy for a Catcher
I imagine it ain’t easy bein’ that tall and playin’ catcher. Like I said, all that squattin’ down. Gotta be hard on the back and the legs, too. But this Greiner, he manages it somehow. Guess you gotta be tough to play in the MLB, no matter how tall you are. The tallest catcher in MLB must be the toughest.
And it ain’t just the squattin’. Catchers gotta be quick, gotta be able to move around fast to block the ball and throw out runners. You’d think bein’ tall would make that harder. But this Greiner, he’s doin’ it. He’s makin’ it work.
Maybe Height Don’t Matter That Much
So maybe bein’ the tallest catcher in MLB ain’t such a bad thing. Maybe it even gives this Greiner an advantage. He can see over the batter better, maybe. He’s got a longer reach to catch those wild pitches. I don’t know, I’m just guessin’.
But one thing’s for sure, this Grayson Greiner is somethin’ special. He’s the tallest catcher in MLB, and he’s holdin’ his own. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, I reckon. He’s showin’ everyone that even a tall fella can make it as a catcher. And that’s a good thing, I think. It’s good to see folks breakin’ the mold and doin’ things their own way.
So, there you have it. That’s what I heard about the tallest catcher in MLB. It’s all about that Grayson Greiner fella. Remember that name. You might be hearin’ it a lot more in the future. He sure changed my idea about the best height for a catcher. He seems to be doing just fine for himself. Good for him, I say. Good for him.
