Alright, let’s talk about this Kadyn Proctor fella. He’s a big ol’ football player, you know, the kind that knocks folks around on the field. Seems like he’s been doin’ a whole lotta switchin’ around lately, kinda like a restless rooster in the hen house. First he was at Alabama, that big fancy football school down south. Then he up and went to Iowa, back to where he come from I reckon.
Now, I ain’t no football expert, mind you. I just watch the games sometimes when the chores are done and there ain’t nothin’ else good on TV. But even I can see this boy’s been doin’ some thinkin’. He went down south, played for a bit, and then decided it wasn’t for him. Maybe he missed his mama’s cookin’, or maybe them southern folks talked too fast for him. Who knows? Folks do strange things sometimes, especially young’uns.
- He went to Alabama.
- Then he went to Iowa.
- Now folks are talkin’ about him all over.
Anyways, this Proctor fella, he’s what they call a “offensive tackle.” Sounds important, I guess. Means he’s one of them big boys up front, protectin’ the quarterback, the fella who throws the ball. He’s gotta be strong and tough, like a bull in a china shop, but gotta know where he’s goin’ too, or else he’ll just mess everything up. Sounds like a hard job to me, but these boys get paid good money to do it, or so I hear. I wouldn’t mind gettin’ paid good money just for pushin’ folks around, but I’m too old for that now. My bones ache just thinkin’ about it.
Seems like some folks are happy he’s back in Iowa. They say he’s a “five-star” player, whatever that means. Sounds like he’s real good at football, I guess. The coaches there, they musta talked him into comin’ back. Told him Iowa was the best place for him, that they’d take care of him. Coaches are good at talkin’, always have been. They can convince a hen to lay square eggs if they wanted to. But I guess it worked, ’cause here he is, back in Iowa, ready to play some football.
Now, some folks are sayin’ he’s a symbol of somethin’ or other, this “transfer freedom” they call it. Sounds fancy, but I don’t rightly know what it means. I guess it means these young fellas can go wherever they want, play for whoever they want. Kinda like pickin’ berries in a field, you go where the berries are ripest, I suppose. But back in my day, you stuck with your team, through thick and thin. You didn’t go runnin’ off just ’cause things got tough. But times are different now, I reckon. Everything’s changin’ so fast, it makes my head spin.
This whole thing with Proctor reminds me of a time when my prize-winning rooster, Big Red, decided he wanted to go live with the neighbor’s chickens. He hopped the fence one day and didn’t look back. Tried to tell him it wasn’t right, that he belonged here, but he wouldn’t listen. Stubborn as a mule, that rooster was. But you know what? A few weeks later, he came back, tail between his legs. Seems the neighbor’s chickens weren’t as friendly as he thought, and the food wasn’t as good. Maybe that’s what happened to this Proctor fella. Maybe he went out there, tried somethin’ new, and realized that home is where the heart is, or somethin’ like that. Anyways, it’s good to have him back in Iowa, if that is what makes him happy.
And there you have it, my take on this whole Kadyn Proctor situation. It ain’t much, I know, but it’s honest. I ain’t gonna try to be fancy or use big words. I just tell it like it is, like I always have. This boy went away, now he’s back, and hopefully, he’ll stick around for a while. Maybe he’ll even help Iowa win some games. That’d be nice, wouldn’t it? But even if he don’t, at least he’s home. And sometimes, that’s all that matters. It is important to remember the value of a supportive community in young fellas’ career choices.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens. They’re gettin’ restless, and I don’t want ’em runnin’ off like that Big Red did. Them chickens are more trouble than they’re worth, but they lay good eggs, and that’s what matters in the end. Just like this Proctor fella, he might be a bit of trouble, but if he plays good football, then everyone will be happy. That’s the way the world works, I reckon. You do your job, you do it well, and folks will appreciate you for it.
I hope I didn’t talk your ear off. That’s all I know about it.
