Well, hello there! You wanna know about this here “take your pick” thing in the NYT crossword? Alright, I’ll tell ya what I know. Don’t expect no fancy words, though. I just talk plain.
So, this crossword thing, it’s in that New York Times paper. Folks say it’s been around a long, long time. Since, what, 1942? That’s before I was even born! Anyways, they got these puzzles every day. Every single day! Can you believe it? And they ain’t all the same, mind you.
- Monday, they say, is the easiest. Even a young’un could probably do it.
- Then it gets harder and harder as the week goes on.
- Saturday, that’s the real brain-buster. Only the smarty-pants folks can finish that one, I reckon.
- Sunday, they got a big ol’ puzzle. It’s in that magazine thing that comes with the paper. Folks say it’s like a Wednesday or Thursday puzzle, not too hard, not too easy. Just right, like Goldilocks and her porridge, you know?
Now, this “take your pick” part? That just means you gotta choose the right answer. They give you a clue, and you gotta figure out the word that fits. Sometimes it’s easy, like “what’s a furry animal that meows?” Well, that’s a cat, obviously! But sometimes, them clues are tricky. They use all sorts of fancy words and make it sound all complicated. That’s when you gotta scratch your head and think real hard.
I heard there’s even a tool, some kind of “solver” thing, where you can type in the clue, or part of it, or even the letters you already got, and it helps you find the answer. Sounds like cheatin’ to me, but hey, to each their own, I always say. Some folks just want to finish the puzzle, and that’s alright.
I ain’t never done one of these fancy crosswords myself. I got enough puzzles in my life, tryin’ to figure out what to make for dinner with what’s in the garden and keepin’ them chickens outta my flower beds. But I can see why folks like ‘em. It’s like a little game for your brain, keeps you sharp, they say. And I guess it’s nice to have somethin’ to do on a rainy afternoon, you know? Better than just starin’ at the wall, that’s for sure.
And this here “take your pick,” it ain’t just for crosswords. Life’s full of choices, ain’t it? What to eat, what to wear, where to go… it’s all “take your pick.” So, I reckon this crossword thing is just a little practice for the bigger decisions, you see? Gets you used to thinkin’ and choosin’. That ain’t a bad thing, not at all. Life is about choices, I’ve always told my kids, even though they rarely listen.
So, there you have it. That’s what I know about this “take your pick nyt crossword” thing. It’s a puzzle, it’s got clues, and you gotta choose the right answers. It’s hard sometimes, but folks seem to like it. And hey, maybe it’s even good for your brain. Who knows? Me, I’ll stick to my garden and my chickens. That’s puzzle enough for me.
But if you like them word games, go ahead and give it a try. Just don’t come cryin’ to me if you can’t finish the Saturday one! You been warned!
