Alright, so I spent some time today trying to figure out this Medvedev versus Aliassime match. It’s always interesting when these two play, you know? Different styles colliding.

My Process
First thing I did was just sit back and think about both guys. My gut feeling on Medvedev is usually consistency. He’s like a wall sometimes, gets everything back. Maybe not the most exciting player to watch for some, but damn effective. He just grinds opponents down.
Then there’s Aliassime. Young guy, tons of talent, big serve, big forehand. When he’s on, he looks like he could beat anyone. But, and it’s a big but, he can be shaky. Sometimes the errors pile up, or he gets tight in big moments. That’s been his story a bit.
So, with those initial thoughts, I started digging a little. Didn’t go super deep into crazy stats, just looked at the basics.
- Head-to-Head: I pulled up their past meetings. From what I recall, Medvedev has had the upper hand quite a bit. That always sticks in the back of my mind. It’s not everything, but it tells you something about how their games match up.
- Recent Form: Tried to remember how they’ve been playing lately. Has Medvedev looked sharp? Any weird losses? Same for Aliassime – has he had a good run, or been struggling? I scrolled through some recent results, just to refresh my memory. Medvedev seemed mostly solid, doing his thing. Aliassime, well, still a bit up and down from what I saw.
- Surface: I checked what surface they’re playing on. That matters. Medvedev generally likes hard courts where his flat shots work well. Aliassime can play on anything, but maybe his power is slightly better controlled on faster courts? Just thinking out loud here.
Putting it Together
Okay, so weighing it all up. Medvedev has the mental edge based on past matches. He’s generally more reliable, less likely to throw in a really bad performance. Aliassime has the higher ceiling, maybe? If he comes out firing and keeps his error count low, he absolutely has the weapons to win.
But tennis often comes down to consistency, especially in bigger matches. Can Aliassime stay focused and execute for potentially three or five sets against someone who gives you almost nothing for free?
Based on their history and Medvedev’s general steadiness, I found myself leaning his way. It wasn’t a super easy call, because Aliassime could catch fire. But if I had to put my money down, based on my little look-through today…
My Prediction
I ended up settling on Medvedev winning. I just think his consistency and the head-to-head record are hard to ignore. I suspect he’ll weather the storm if Aliassime comes out hot and will capitalize on any dips in form or rising error counts from the Canadian.
Maybe in straight sets, maybe three. I feel like Medvedev finds a way more often than not in this specific matchup.

Of course, it’s just my take after looking into it today. Anything can happen on the day! That’s why we watch, right?
