Okay, so I had to get a DJ contract sorted for this event I’m planning. Man, it was a bit of a journey, let me tell you!

First, I googled “DJ contract template” ’cause, honestly, I had no clue where to start. I found a bunch of options, some free, some paid. I grabbed a couple of the free ones to check ’em out.
Sifting Through the Templates
The first few I looked at were, well, kinda garbage. Super basic, didn’t cover much. Then I found one that seemed pretty decent. It had sections for:
- The Basics: My name and the DJ’s name, event date, time, location. All the obvious stuff.
- Payment: How much I was paying the DJ, when the payment was due, and what forms of payment were accepted.
- Setup and Breakdown: When the DJ would arrive to set up, and when they’d pack up after the event.
- Equipment: Who was providing what. I needed the DJ to bring their own gear, so I made sure that was clear.
- Music: I wanted to give some general guidelines on the type of music, but also let the DJ do their thing.
- Cancellation: This was important. What happens if I need to cancel, or if the DJ cancels? Needed to protect both of us.
- Liability: Just in case something goes wrong.
Customizing the heck out of it
So, I took this decent template and started tweaking it. I added a few clauses about things that were specific to my event, like having a backup DJ plan in case of emergency. also add the specfic time line of the event. I also clarified some of the wording to make sure it was super easy to understand.
I spent a good couple of hours on this, making sure everything was covered. It felt like a lot of work at the time, but I knew it was important to have a solid contract in place.
Getting the DJ to sign
Once I have it to singed by DJ, then send back to me. I reviewed again to make sure all terms are correct.
Finally, I got this conract thing all sorted out. A good DJ contract is pretty simple if you know what to prepare. Wish everyone good luck!
