Okay, so I’ve been seeing all these folks online bragging about how fast they solve the NYT Crossword. I’m like, “Pfft, I can do that!” (Spoiler: I barely can.)

So this morning, I decided to give it a shot. I opened up the NYT Games app, took a deep breath, and dove in.
The Initial Struggle
- First few clues? No problem. I was feeling pretty good, like, “Yeah, I’m a word wizard!”
- Then…BAM! I hit a wall. Like, a huge, brick wall of “I have no idea what this word could possibly be.”
I started guessing. Random letters, just throwing stuff at the wall to see what would stick. It was… not pretty.
I think I spent a solid 10 minutes staring at one corner, completely stumped. My coffee got cold. My cat judged me. It was rough.
The Slow Crawl to Victory(ish)
Eventually, I started to get a few more answers, thanks to some lucky guesses and, I’ll admit, a few sneaky peeks at the “reveal letter” option. (Don’t tell anyone.)
It was slow going, though. I had to really wrack my brain, think about every possible word combination, and even then, I was still making mistakes left and right.
Finally after checking “reveal word” for many times, I did it!
The End Result
After what felt like an eternity, I finally finished the puzzle. Did I break any speed records? Absolutely not. Did I feel a sense of accomplishment? You bet! Even though I barely managed to run it, I still ran the whole course.

My takeaway? The NYT Crossword is HARD. Those people who do it in like 5 minutes? They’re a different breed. But hey, I’ll keep practicing. Maybe one day I’ll be able to brag about my solving speed too. For now, I’m just happy I managed to finish it at all!
