Okay, so today I decided to tackle a “rival crossword” puzzle. I’d heard about these things, and they sounded pretty interesting – kind of like a competitive crossword, where you’re racing against someone else. Sounds fun, right?

Getting Started
First, I needed to find one. I did a quick search and realized quickly realized it’s some app or game. I chose one and downloaded it.
Figuring Out the Rules
Once I found one, I had to figure out how it worked. I poked around a bit, I read instructions. Basically, the app is a standard crossword grid, but you’re trying to fill it in faster than your opponent.
My First Attempt (It Wasn’t Pretty)
I jumped into a game. My fingers were ready to type, but my brain? Not so much.
- I started with what I thought was an easy one – a three-letter word for a common animal. “Dog”? Nope. “Cat”? Nope. Ugh.
- Meanwhile, my opponent was clearly on a roll. Words were flying onto their side of the grid. I could practically feel the pressure.
- I finally got a few words filled in, but I was definitely behind. My competitive spirit kicked in, but it was a little late.
Learning the Ropes
After a few more rounds, I started to get the hang of it. A few things I realized:
- Speed is key. Duh, right? But it’s not just about knowing the answers, it’s about typing them in FAST.
- Don’t get stuck. If you’re blanking on a word, move on! Come back to it later.
- Common words are your friends. Short, everyday words can help you fill in a lot of squares quickly.
Did I Win?
Well, not my first few games, that’s for sure. But I did manage to snag a couple of victories once I got into a rhythm. It’s definitely a fun way to challenge your brain and get that competitive feeling going. I can see myself playing this more often – maybe I’ll even become a rival crossword champion someday! (Probably not, but a guy can dream, right?)
