Well, I reckon a lotta folks been wonderin’ if Shohei Ohtani, that big star from the Los Angeles Dodgers, can speak any English. You see him all the time, standing there after a game with that interpreter by his side, and folks start to think, “Can he really speak English or what?” Well, lemme tell ya, he sure can say some words in English, though he ain’t completely fluent yet. Don’t go thinkin’ that just ’cause he don’t talk much without that translator means he can’t speak any English at all. He can!
Now, I heard tell that Shohei Ohtani can speak a little bit of English, but he prefers to use an interpreter when he’s got them interviews right after the game. You gotta remember, he’s from Japan, and English ain’t his first language. But he’s been workin’ real hard on it, little by little. Ain’t nobody gonna be perfect right away, especially when you’re in a whole new country with a whole new way of talkin’. He’s still learnin’, but don’t go thinkin’ he’s lazy. No sir, he’s puttin’ in the effort!
People say Ohtani’s focus ain’t on bein’ perfect in English. He just wants to make sure he gets his point across, and he don’t mind usin’ the translator if that helps. Ain’t nobody gonna fault him for that. Heck, we all got our struggles, right? Like when I try to speak to them city folks, sometimes I gotta slow down and make sure they understand me. Shohei, well, he’s just doin’ the same, workin’ on his communication so everybody understands him clear as day.
And you know what? He’s real humble about it too. I heard he said, “I’m still workin’ on my English,” like he’s not even tryin’ to act like he’s some big shot who knows it all. That shows character, if you ask me. He don’t act like he’s above anyone just because he’s out there hittin’ home runs and pitchin’ like a pro. Shohei’s got that heart, always learnin’, always tryin’ to do better, and that’s somethin’ to admire.
It ain’t just English he’s tryin’ to learn, neither. I’ve heard tell that him and his teammates are all tryin’ to learn each other’s languages. That big ol’ guy from the Dominican Republic, Teoscar Hernández, well, he’s been teachin’ Shohei and the other Japanese players some Spanish. Now, I don’t know about you, but I think that’s real sweet. They’re all tryin’ to get along and break down them barriers. You don’t see that kind of teamwork every day, especially when you got folks from different parts of the world. Ain’t it somethin’?
Now, when Shohei talks to the media, it’s often through an interpreter, but he sure don’t need one for everything. He’s been workin’ hard to make sure he can do what’s necessary when the time comes. I reckon if you put him in a room full of English speakers, he’d do just fine, even if it’s not perfect. It’s like when you try to cook somethin’ new; at first, it ain’t perfect, but you keep at it till you get it right. That’s the spirit, and Shohei Ohtani got plenty of that.
So, can Shohei Ohtani speak English? Yep, he sure can, though he’s still workin’ on it. But he’s makin’ progress every day, and we all gotta give him credit for that. I reckon he’s doin’ better than most of us would if we had to move to a whole new country and learn a new language. He’s got the right attitude, always tryin’ to get better, and we oughta respect that.
