Okay, so I saw this thing online about Ryan Day, the Ohio State football coach, and whether he dyes his beard. It’s a surprisingly hot topic! I decided to do some digging and maybe even… try things out myself. You know, for science.

My Investigation Begins
First, I spent a good hour just scrolling through photos of Coach Day. Recent ones, older ones, ones in different lighting. I felt like a detective, looking for inconsistencies in his beard color. Some pictures it looked reddish-brown, others more dark brown. Was it the lighting? Was it a dye job? The internet was divided.
Gathering Supplies (Just in Case)
Then, I figured, why not be prepared? I went to the drugstore. Let me tell you, the beard dye aisle is a whole new world. There are so many shades! I grabbed a couple of boxes that seemed like they might match Day’s color. I chose a reddish-brown and a dark brown, just to cover my bases.
The “Experiment” (Or, How I Almost Ruined My Sink)
Okay, I’m not gonna lie, I chickened out of actually dyeing my whole beard. My wife would have killed me. But, I did take a tiny, tiny clipping of my beard hair (don’t tell anyone) and did a test patch with each dye. I followed the instructions on the box (mostly), waited the recommended time, and then rinsed it out. It was messy. I definitely got some dye on the sink. Thankfully, I managed to clean it up before anyone noticed.
Results and Conclusions (Sort Of)
- The reddish-brown dye turned my test hair a little too orange. Not quite Ryan Day.
- The dark brown was closer, but still not a perfect match.
So, what did I learn? Honestly, not much about Ryan Day’s beard. Maybe he dyes it, maybe he doesn’t. Maybe it’s just the stadium lights. But, I did learn that beard dye is messy, and I’m probably not cut out to be a hair color expert. I also realized, that spending hours examining another man’s facial hair online is a bit, how do i say, “special”? My weekend was definitely… interesting.
In the end, I decided to just embrace my own beard, whatever color it is. And maybe stick to watching football instead of analyzing the coach’s grooming habits.
This “searching the truth” game is really not for everyone.
