Okay, so the other day, I was trying to schedule a meeting with some colleagues in Japan, and I’m based in France. Figuring out the time difference was a bit of a headache at first, so I figured I’d share my process in case anyone else runs into this.

First, I grabbed my phone and did a quick search. I just typed in something simple like, “time difference between France and Japan”.
My Findings
It became pretty clear that Japan is way ahead of us.
- The search results showed me that Japan is 8 hours ahead of France.
This means that when it’s morning here in France, it’s already late afternoon or evening in Japan. So, I needed to find a time that wouldn’t have either of us working at crazy hours.
I thought about it for a bit. If I scheduled something for, say, 9 am in France, that would be 5 pm in Japan. That seemed reasonable, right? It’s not too early for me, and it’s still within regular working hours for them.
I double-checked by mental calculation, so if i set a meeting at 10 am France time, it will be 6 pm in Japan, also fine.
So, that’s what I went with! I proposed a meeting time between 9 am and 10 am France time, which is 5 pm to 6 pm in Japan. It seemed like the best compromise to accommodate everyone.
It all worked out pretty smoothly. Just remember, Japan is 8 hours ahead. Keep that in mind when you’re planning, and you should be good to go!
