Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my fairway woods lately, specifically trying to dial in my Callaway Rogue 5 wood. The big question for me was: what loft should I really be playing?

The Experiment Begins
I started by hitting a bunch of balls at the range with the standard loft setting. You know, just getting a feel for the club and seeing how it performed off the deck and the tee.
- First, I warmed up with some easy swings. Nothing crazy, just trying to get loose.
- Then, I started hitting balls off the mat, focusing on solid contact.
- I also use my Rapsodo Launch Monitor to track some data.
Adjusting and Observing
After I had a good baseline, I grabbed my adjustment tool. The Rogue has that OptiFit hosel, so you can tweak the loft and lie angle. I started by increasing the loft a degree, thinking it might help me get the ball up in the air a little easier, especially from the fairway.
I hit another bucket, paying close attention to the ball flight. It definitely launched higher, which was nice, but I felt like I might have been losing a bit of distance.
Finding the Sweet Spot
Next, I tried decreasing the loft by a degree. The ball flight was noticeably lower, and I did pick up a few yards, but it was tougher to hit consistently well off the deck. It felt great off the tee, though!
So, after all that tinkering, I actually ended up back at the standard loft! that is my best data.
It just seemed to give me the best balance of distance, trajectory, and consistency for my swing.
My Conclusion
It was a good reminder that sometimes the stock settings are the best, at least for me. But it was definitely worth experimenting to see if I could squeeze out a little extra performance. Playing around with the loft helped me understand how it impacts my ball flight and overall distance. I’m feeling way more confident with my 5 wood now!
