Okay, so, I’ve been diving deep into college football, and I wanted to get a good look at Purdue’s team this year. The first thing I did was try to find their depth chart. That’s basically a list of who’s playing what position, and who’s backing them up. It’s a good way to get a quick overview of the team’s strengths and weaknesses.
I started off by just searching around online. I figured, “Hey, someone’s gotta have this posted somewhere, right?” Turns out, it’s not always that easy. A lot of sites had outdated info, or just didn’t have the kind of detailed depth chart I was looking for.
Then, I went straight to the source. I checked out Purdue’s official athletics website, and looked through their football pages. Usually, the team’s own site is the best place to find this stuff. They often have a media guide, or press releases, with the official depth chart. But, surprisingly, even there, it wasn’t super clear. They had some info, but not a full, easy-to-read chart.
So, I started digging a little deeper. I checked out some fan forums and message boards, where people who follow the team really closely hang out. Some of them had put together their own depth charts, based on what they’d seen in practice reports and news articles. That was helpful, but I still wanted something more “official.”
Next, I looked at some sports news sites. I hit up the big ones, and a few that focus specifically on college football. Some of them had some decent info, but it was often mixed in with a bunch of other stuff, and I had to piece it together myself.
Finally, I figured I’d try social media. I searched for some Purdue football beat writers and insiders on Twitter. These guys are usually pretty plugged in. I found a few tweets here and there that mentioned some specific positions, but nothing that gave me the full picture.
After all that, I still didn’t have a perfect, complete Purdue football depth chart. But, I had gathered a bunch of info from different places. I kind of pieced it all together and made my own, best-guess chart, so I did my best to organize my data.
My Own Depth Chart
Here’s how I organized the information I found:
- Quarterbacks
- Hudson Card
- Bennett Meredith
- Running Backs
- Devin Mockobee
- Tyrone Tracy Jr.
- Wide Receivers
- Deion Burks
- TJ Sheffield
- Tight Ends
- Max Klare
- Garrett Miller
- Offensive Line
- Gus Hartwig
- Mahamane Moussa
- Defensive Line
- Isaiah Nichols
- Malik Langham
- Linebackers
- Kydran Jenkins
- OC Brothers
- Defensive Backs
- Sanoussi Kane
- Cam Allen
- Special Teams
- Ben Freehill
- Jack Ansell
It wasn’t easy, but I think I got a pretty good handle on who’s who on the Purdue football team this year. It just goes to show, sometimes you gotta do a little extra work to get the info you need!
