Okay, so today I’m tackling something that’s been on my mind for a while: putting together an all-time Inter Milan XI. It’s a fun little project, but let me tell you, it’s tougher than it looks.
Getting Started
First thing I did was to jot down a list of all the big names that have played for Inter over the years. I mean, we’re talking about legends here. Then, I started digging through some old articles and stats online. You know, just to refresh my memory and make sure I wasn’t missing anyone obvious.
Narrowing It Down
After that, it was time to get ruthless. I had a huge list, and I needed to whittle it down to just eleven players plus some backups. This is where it got tricky. How do you compare players from different eras? It’s not exactly apples to apples, right?
- Goalkeeper: This one was actually pretty straightforward. Walter Zenga, the man was a wall.
- Defense: Okay, here’s where I started pulling my hair out a bit. So many great defenders. I ended up going with Bergomi, of course, and then Facchetti, Samuel, and Zanetti. Tough choices, really tough.
- Midfield: Matthäus, a force of nature. Suárez, the architect. And then… I debated between a few names, but finally settled on Jair as the right winger. Again, tough calls all around.
- Attack: Ronaldo, the Phenomenon. Meazza, a true legend. This part was a bit easier, if I’m honest. I picked Sandro Mazzola as the last attacker. The three will be a perfect match!
The Final Lineup
So, after much deliberation, here’s what I came up with:
Starting XI: Zenga; Zanetti, Bergomi, Samuel, Facchetti; Matthäus, Suárez, Jair; Meazza, Ronaldo, Mazzola.
Backups: I picked Julio Cesar as the backup keeper. For defense, I went with Materazzi and Chivu. In midfield, I added Cambiasso and Corso. And for the attack, I had to include Vieri and Milito.
Wrapping Up
This was a lot of fun, but also super challenging. I’m sure I’ve missed some players that others would consider essential. And I’m totally open to hearing other opinions on this. It’s all subjective, right? At the end of the day, it’s just cool to think about all the amazing players who have worn the Inter shirt over the years. It’s a real privilege to think about the history of this club and to try to piece together the best of the best.
