Alright, so, the regular season wrapped up, and now it’s that time again – transfer season for JMU football. We had a decent run, finishing 9-4 overall and 4-4 in the Sun Belt. Not too shabby, but there’s always room to get better, right?
So, I started by checking out what the buzz was around the team. The first thing I noticed was the number of players hitting the transfer portal. Man, 11 players announced they were entering the portal. That’s a good chunk of the team! It made me think about how the team’s gonna fill those gaps.
Then, I started digging around to see what JMU’s plans might be. I mean, after going 8-4 in the regular season, and then winning the Boca Raton Bowl, they gotta be aiming higher next year. To do that, they need to bring in some fresh talent, and that’s where the transfer portal comes in.
I recalled reading somewhere that JMU had already added a whopping 19 transfers during the mid-year portal opening. 19! That’s wild. I wondered what kind of impact these new guys would have, and what positions they’d be playing. It’s like putting together a puzzle, trying to figure out how all these new pieces will fit.
Looking to Improve
- Analyze the 2024 season performance.
- Identify areas where the team needs to improve.
- Scout potential transfer targets who can address those needs.
I spent some time looking into each of those 19 transfers. It’s a mixed bag of players, coming from all over. Some are seasoned veterans looking for a change of scenery, while others are younger guys hoping for a chance to shine. There’s definitely some potential there, but it’s all about how they gel with the existing team and the coaching staff.
One thing’s for sure, the coaching staff has their work cut out for them. They need to evaluate these new players, figure out how they fit into the system, and get them up to speed quickly. It’s gonna be interesting to see how it all plays out next season. I’m cautiously optimistic, though. JMU has a solid foundation, and with the right additions, they could really make some noise in the Sun Belt next year. It’s gonna be a fun ride, that’s for sure.
