So today, I wanted to mess around with something I’d heard a bit about – a guy named Richard Colon. Apparently, this dude is a big deal in the breakdancing world, also known as Crazy Legs. I figured, why not see what this guy’s all about? I mean, I’m no dancer, but I’m always up for learning something new.
First things first, I needed to find out who this guy really was. I started by reading up a bit on him. Turns out, Richard “Crazy Legs” Colon is one of the pioneers of breakdancing, starting way back in the 70s. He’s part of the Rock Steady Crew, which is like, the legendary group in the breakdancing scene. It was cool to see how he got into it, you know, just a kid from the Bronx finding his passion.
After getting the basics down, I watched some videos of him dancing. Man, this guy’s moves are insane! It’s crazy how he twists and turns his body like that. I tried to copy a few of his simpler moves, just for fun. Let me tell you, it’s way harder than it looks. I pulled a muscle in my leg just trying to do a basic spin. Definitely not as easy as he makes it seem!
Then, I dug a little deeper into his story. I found some interviews where he talked about his life and how breakdancing was more than just dance – it was a way of life, a culture. It was really inspiring to hear him talk about how it helped him and his friends stay out of trouble and gave them something positive to focus on. There was a video about the Rock Steady Crew’s anniversary where Colon spoke about the importance of keeping the art form alive and passing it down to the next generation.
I spent a good chunk of the afternoon just watching old-school breakdancing videos. It’s amazing to see how much it has evolved over the years. But you can still see Crazy Legs’ influence in a lot of the moves today. People are still trying to master the moves he helped create back in the day. What a way to leave a mark on something he is passionate about, right?
By the end of the day, I had a whole new appreciation for breakdancing and for Richard Colon. It’s not just about the cool moves; it’s about the history, the culture, and the community. I might not be ready to join a breakdancing crew anytime soon, but I definitely enjoyed learning about this world. It is a good reminder that there’s so much out there to explore, even if it’s way outside of our comfort zone. I’ll for sure remember Richard Colon, for what he created in the breakdancing world.
