So, I was watching the RBC Heritage golf tournament this weekend, and I got to wondering, “Is there a cut in this thing?” You know, like where they trim down the players after a couple of rounds?
I did some digging around ’cause I was genuinely curious. Turns out, this year they’re doing things a bit differently. Usually, most tournaments have a cut, right? They do this to keep things interesting, I guess. Keeps the TV ratings up or something when there are fewer players to watch in the later rounds.
But get this: for the 2024 RBC Heritage, they decided to ditch the cut altogether! Yep, no cut line after 36 holes. I found out that there are only a handful of tournaments this year on the PGA Tour that are skipping the cut, and the RBC Heritage is one of them. Two of them already happened before it, one was called The Sentry and the other one’s called ATT Pebble Beach Pro-Am or something like that.
Why did they do it? Well, it seems like they’re trying out a new format. This way, every golfer who’s in the tournament gets to play all four rounds. No early exits. Kind of cool, right? It felt weird at first, not having that “make the cut or go home” pressure, but it was kind of refreshing to see everyone get a full go at it.
It looks like they only invited the top dogs from last season and this season to play. I think they said there were like 70 or 80 players total, which is a bit smaller than usual. So, it’s like a more exclusive field, and everyone gets to stick around for the whole show.
- No cut at the 2024 RBC Heritage.
- Only nine tournaments this year aren’t doing cuts.
- This means all the golfers play all four rounds.
- They’re calling these “Signature Events” or something. There were only about 70 to 80 top players invited.
Here’s what I gathered:
So yeah, that was my little investigation into the RBC Heritage cut situation. I just thought it was interesting and wanted to share. Turns out, sometimes they change things up in the golf world, just to keep us on our toes, I guess! I thought it was cool to see all the players get to compete all the way to the end. Made for a pretty exciting finish, I gotta say.
