Alright, let’s talk about this guy, Sean Strickland, and his, uh, “exciting” fighting style. I decided to give this a whirl myself, see what all the fuss was about.
So, I started by watching a bunch of his fights. Man, oh man, this dude loves to jab. Like, a lot. I get it, jabbing is important, but it felt like that was all he was doing.
I got in the gym, started practicing my own jabs. Throw, throw, throw, just like Strickland. It was pretty boring, to be honest. I mean, I could see how it could be effective, wearing down your opponent, keeping them at a distance. But it wasn’t exactly thrilling, you know?
- I tried sparring with this style. My partner was getting frustrated, I was getting frustrated. I was just throwing jabs, trying to keep him away. He wasn’t really able to get in any good shots, but I wasn’t doing much damage either. It was like a stalemate, just a lot of poking and prodding.
- I even tried to go “full berserk,” as some people said, but it didn’t really work. I guess I just don’t have that killer instinct, or maybe I’m just not as good as Cannonier or Hall, who Strickland also fought.
- After a few weeks of this, I started to get why some people call Strickland boring. It’s effective, sure, but it’s not exactly edge-of-your-seat entertainment. And I could see why he might be sitting on back-to-back losses now. If you’re not finishing fights, you’re leaving it up to the judges, and that’s always a gamble.
Try to copy his style
I kept at it for a while, trying to understand the nuances of his style. I did notice that my defense got a lot better. My reaction time improved, and I was able to avoid a lot of punches. But still, it wasn’t fun. It felt like I was just going through the motions, not really fighting.
I ended up ditching the Strickland style. It just wasn’t for me. I like to mix things up, throw some power punches, maybe even go for a takedown. But hey, to each their own, right? Some people like that slow, methodical style. I guess I’m just not one of them.
I also heard that Strickland only gets paid $850 for base salary, which is kinda crazy considering how famous he is. But hey, maybe that’s why he fights the way he does. Gotta get those wins, even if it’s not pretty. Anyway, that’s my experience with the Sean Strickland boring fight style. Not my cup of tea, but I can see why some people might like it.
I guess everyone’s got their own way of doing things, and what works for one person might not work for another. Just like how some people like watching paint dry, and others, well, don’t.
