So, I set out to catch the 44th U.S. Senior Open, which was held at the Newport Country Club. This event kicked off on June 27 and wrapped up on June 30, 2024. It was a big deal, bringing together 156 of the world’s top senior golfers, both pros and amateurs, all over 50.
I got there bright and early on the 26th, just in time for a practice round. It cost me 25 bucks, but it was totally worth it. I walked the course, checked out the grandstands, and just soaked in the atmosphere. It was amazing to see the place buzzing with excitement.
The next day, the real action started. I followed the players around, watching them tackle the course. The competition was fierce, and every swing was crucial. I mean, these guys are legends, and they were putting on a show. I tried to keep up with the leaders, but there was so much going on that it was hard to see everything.
By the 29th, we were halfway through, and the tension was palpable. I spent the day hopping from hole to hole, trying to catch the best shots. The crowd was really into it, cheering and clapping. I even got a few high-fives from some fellow golf fans. It was a blast.
The final day, June 30th, was insane. I planted myself near the 18th hole, hoping to see the winner sink the final putt. The energy was electric, and when the champion was finally crowned, the place went wild. I joined in the celebrations, clapping and cheering with everyone else.
After the awards ceremony, I wandered around, taking in the last moments of the event. I chatted with some of the volunteers, got a few autographs, and even snapped a couple of pictures with some of the players. It was a great way to end an incredible few days.
Leaving the Newport Country Club, I felt a mix of exhaustion and exhilaration. I had just witnessed some of the best senior golfers in the world battle it out, and it was an experience I’ll never forget. I can’t wait for the next one.
