Now, you wanna know about the 2016 Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster, huh? Well, let me tell ya, that year wasn’t too bad, but it sure wasn’t great neither. Them boys tried real hard, but in the end, they ended up with a 9-7 record. They finished second in their division, which ain’t too shabby, but just short of making the playoffs. Anyway, here’s how things went down with them fellas.
First off, let’s talk about the quarterback situation. The big name that year was Jameis Winston. Now, he was a young fella, but he could throw the ball. He threw for 281 yards in one game and managed to get four touchdowns. That’s some good work, I tell ya. He ended up throwin’ for over 4,000 yards that whole season. But, even though he had a decent year, it wasn’t enough to get them into the playoffs, which is what really matters, right?
Now, don’t be thinkin’ it was all about the offense, ‘cause that defense had a job to do too. The defense was okay, but they let up too many points, especially in the games that really mattered. They gave up an average of 23.1 points per game, and that’s just too much. But still, they managed to win a good number of games, thanks to the offense keeping up with the score most of the time.
Let me tell ya, one thing about them Buccaneers was the wide receivers. They had some good ones like Mike Evans, who was a big target for Jameis Winston. He was a real handful for the other teams to deal with. In fact, Evans caught a bunch of touchdowns that season, and he was the go-to guy for long passes. Then there was Adam Humphries, who wasn’t as flashy as Evans, but he did his job catching them short passes and making some good plays. They didn’t have a bad group of receivers, but they didn’t have that extra star power that some of the other teams had.
Running the ball? Well, they had a couple of guys trying to get things done on the ground. Doug Martin was supposed to be the main back, but he was hurt a lot that season. When he was healthy, he could still run pretty well, but you could tell he wasn’t the same as before. So, they ended up using Jacquizz Rodgers and a few others, and while they got the job done now and then, it wasn’t anything spectacular.
On the other side of the ball, the defensive line was okay, but I gotta say, they didn’t get as much pressure on the quarterback as you’d want. Still, they had a few players that were tough to get by, like Gerald McCoy, who was a real force in the middle. He wasn’t always gettin’ sacks, but he sure kept the pressure on the other team. The linebackers, led by Lavonte David, were solid too. That man can tackle, that’s for sure!
But let’s talk about the coaches for a minute. Now, the head coach for that season was Dirk Koetter, and while he tried his best, he just didn’t have the pieces he needed to get this team to the playoffs. He had his work cut out for him, and you could see that by the way they played in them close games. It was like they was always a few steps behind. The team had some ups and downs, but they finished with that 9-7 record, which is alright, but it left a lot of fans wonderin’ what coulda been.
Overall, the 2016 Buccaneers roster had some good players, but they just couldn’t put it all together. It wasn’t a bad season, but it wasn’t one for the history books neither. But, you know, they kept their heads high and tried hard every week, and that’s all you can ask for in the NFL. They had some big wins, and some tough losses, but at the end of the day, they showed they had the potential to be a playoff team.
In the end, 2016 was just another year of promise that never quite panned out. But who knows, maybe the next season would be the year they finally put it all together and make a real run at the playoffs!
